Ford and McLaren currently stand ahead of their 2027 World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar debuts

Ford’s Hypercar Program

  • Chassis & Engine Package: Ford has partnered with French constructor ORECA to build its LMDh chassis. The car is powered by an in-house developed, 5.4-liter naturally aspirated “Coyote-based” V8 built in Dearborn, Michigan, paired with the class-mandated hybrid system.
  • Current Status: The program achieved a major milestone in July 2026 after completing its first integrated engine fire-up inside the ORECA chassis. Track testing is scheduled to begin in August 2026 across European circuits before shifting to North America.
  • Driver Lineup: Ford has already finalized its complete six-driver factory roster for 2027, featuring:
    • Logan Sargeant
    • Mike Rockenfeller
    • Sebastian Priaulx
    • Matt Campbell
    • Tom Blomqvist
    • Nick Yelloly

McLaren’s Hypercar Program

  • Chassis & Engine Package: Dubbed the MCL-HY, McLaren’s LMDh prototype is built on a Dallara LMP2-based chassis and powered by a custom V6 turbocharged engine paired with the spec hybrid powertrain.
  • Current Status: McLaren is slightly ahead of Ford on track testing, having already completed initial shakedowns in May 2026 and making its first public debut appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car will undergo extensive testing and aerodynamic validation ahead of winter homologation.
  • Driver Lineup: McLaren has begun locking in its factory squad under the McLaren United AS banner, confirming:
    • Mikkel Jensen
    • Laurens Vanthoor
    • Supported by development drivers Grégoire Saucy, Richard Verschoor, and Ben Hanley.
